The India Japan Lab (IJL) of Keio University and Izu City Sign Comprehensive Partnership Agreement in the Field of Education

– Toward the Promotion of Next-Generation Disaster Education Using XR Technology –

On July 10, 2025, the India Japan Lab (IJL) of Keio University signed a comprehensive partnership agreement in the field of education with Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
This marks the first such agreement for the India Japan Lab with a local government to engage in year-round collaborative projects.

 

 


-Toward the Promotion of Next-Generation Disaster Prevention Education Using XR Technology-

This program is led by Sachiko Takane, a researcher specializing in XR-based disaster education at the India Japan Lab.By combining Izu City’s evolving ICT educational environment with the India Japan Lab’s academic and technological expertise—particularly in cutting-edge XR education—the initiative aims to cultivate creativity, global awareness, and resilience among students.

The signing ceremony took place at Izu City Hall, attended by Mayor Yutaka Kikuchi of Izu City and Professor Rajib Shaw, Director of the India Japan Laboratory, who officially signed the agreement. Professor Shaw stated, “As disasters caused by climate change become more frequent, we need to pursue new forms of learning and preparedness that differ from conventional approaches.”

The agreement outlines the following planned initiatives:

  • Implementation and presentation of XR-based disaster education practices at Izu Junior High School

  • International exchange using ICT with schools in India

  • Exchange program for junior high school students from Izu City to visit Keio University SFC

The India Japan Lab (IJL) will continue working toward the development of future-oriented educational models that integrate technology and creativity through strong collaboration with local governments and educational institutions.
