MoU for Research Collaboration with University of Madras

On 11th March 2022, India-Japan Laboratory (Keio University, Japan) signed a five-year (2022-2027) pact with the University of Madras (India), to initiate research collaboration in the field of coastal resilience and disaster risk reduction, besides student and faculty exchange between the two universities. Focusing on enhancing community-based disaster management in the post-pandemic period, the collaboration (which will also include RIKA Institute, India) will enable transfer of technology, professional skills from Japan to India. End users such as Department of Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority, and Greater Chennai Corporation would be invited to make use of the research outcomes.

The MoU signing Ceremony was held in presence of Prof. Rajib Shaw (Director, IJL), Taga Masayuki, Consulate General of Japan in Chennai, S. Gowri, Vice-Chancellor, N. Mathivanan, In-charge Registrar, and R.R. Krishnamurthy, Head of Department of Geology, University of Madras, and other team members. Remarkably, the signing of this agreement commemorates the 70th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic relations.
